The “Into My Arms” singer, Nick Cave blasted out against the “cancel culture” noting that political correctness has become the “unhappiest religion in the world”.

The Australian rocker responded after a fan asked him for his opinion about the growing trend of “cancel culture”. For starters, “cancel culture” refers to the act of “canceling out” support for people, groups, or businesses whenever they disagree with the opinions and ideas dictated by the radical left mob. Most oftentimes, Hollywood stars and political figures use it as a way to dismiss their opponent’s opinion.

However, Cave believed that the idea of “mercy” and “‘tolerance” is needed now more than ever in today’s society. The singer explained, “Tolerance allows the spirit of inquiry the confidence to roam freely, to make mistakes, to self-correct, to be bold,” He continued that tolerance allows people to make more advanced ideas. Cave believes that without tolerance, people become more “fearful”, “inflexible”, “humorless, and “‘vindictive”.

He also noted that “Political correctness has grown to become the unhappiest religion in the world.” He described that at first, the idea of political correctness was considered as an “‘honorable attempt’” to reimagine society. However, it has grown to represent the worst aspects of any religion. He claimed that people’s growing sense of self-righteousness puts individuals in a space where redemption is not possible.

The singer noted that people’s “refusal”to what he considers as “‘uncomfortable ideas” can be especially damaging for artists. Cave believes that it has an “asphyxiating effect” on culture and society. “A force that finds its meaning in the cancellation of these difficult ideas hampers the creative spirit of society and strikes at the complex and diverse nature of its culture,” Cave wrote.

While the singer does not believe in the cancel culture, he also agrees that society is not beyond redemption. In fact, he acknowledges that people are now in a culture that is in transition, and are gearing toward hopefully, a “more equal society.” However, Cave asked, “but what essential values will we forfeit in the process?”

As the upcoming 2020 general election draws to a close, more and more celebrities and political figures are using their influence to promote cancel culture. For example, in a report from The Patriot Hill, model, and vocal Trump critic, Chrissy Teigan campaigned against the use of Goya products after the company’s CEO, Robert Unanue praised President Donald Trump after he signed the executive order for the Hispanic Prosperity Initiative.

However, after her public declaration of disgust against the company, netizens accused Teigan of being a hypocrite when a can of Goya beans was spotted in her kitchen counter.
