After rioters had wreaked havoc in the city’s “Magnificent Mile” shopping district, Chicago police lashed out against the Cook County’s Attorney for allowing the criminals to get away with a $500 bond.

Speaking to reporters, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown blasted off the Cook County State’s Attorney, Kim Foxx, for allowing rioters to get away with a $500 bond, a mere slap for the million-dollar destruction that they had left during the weekend.

Despite his pleas, Brown believed that the city failed to make the rioters accountable for their criminal activity. He also believed that it had failed to discourage people from creating another violent incident. On Sunday, the city saw massive destruction after rioters broke glass windows, including the Burberry boutique. The police superintendent shared that shortly after midnight, two cops were dispatched to deal with the looting. When they arrived, the cops then saw the suspect, Demisck Lomax who was holding a brick in an attempt to break down the windows of a Burberry store.

When an officer approached Lomax, he instead threw the brick at the cop, hitting him on the hand. The officers then ran after the suspect and subsequently arrested him. On Tuesday, Lomax, who already held three felony convictions for drug-related crimes, was brought to court. He was charged with felony aggravated battery of a police officer as well as a criminal offense on the damage of property, and looting.

Unfortunately, despite the heavy charges against him, the Cook County Judge allowed Lomax to get away with a $5,000 bond, to which he was required to pay a small ten percent, dropping it to just $500.

Brown claimed that the same incident happened in May when the County had allowed rioters to get away with their criminal offenses. “Criminals took to the streets with the confidence that there would be no consequences for their actions,” he said. Brown continued, “Let me say that again: Criminals took to the streets with the confidence that there would be no consequences for their actions.” He added that back in May and June, the police were able to make more than 100 arrests, yet no one was prosecuted to the “‘fullest extent”.

Earlier this week, Brown had also clarified rumors that the protests began after a social media footage caught the police shooting an unarmed 15-year old boy in an alleyway on the city’s south side. The police superintendent explained that officers instead, officers shot a 20-year old armed man with a long criminal record after he fired at law enforcement officers.

Foxx also denied the allegations despite dismissing thousands of felony charges, including sexual assault and homicide charges. She went on to claim that the rioters that were caught in May and June were set to have their day in court.

During a joint media briefing, both Brown and Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot denied claims from left-wing supporters that the looters were “peaceful protesters” or that they were financially in need of money. Instead, both agreed that the incident was a deliberate act of “criminality.”

In a report from The Patriot Hill, one woman had even live-streamed a video of her looting a high-end luxury store while she ran around screaming George Floyd’s Dying words “I can’t breathe”.
