Today, the world commemorates the 31st anniversary of China’s Tiananmen massacre as thousands of student protesters have lost their lives against the oppressive regime.

While the world mourned the tragic event, Democratic politicians have used this as an opportunity to compare President Donald Trump’s iconic “church walk” to the massacre. Just this week, Trump made headlines after he walked from the White House Rose garden to Lafayette square, as he paid a visit to St. John’s Episcopal Church after it had been set on fire by rioters.

The church has held strong historical value, as it had served as a religious site for the former U.S. President. While GOP supporters have praised Trump for leading the walk and signifying a message of unity, Democrats used it as an opportunity to criticize Trump. In fact, they accused law enforcement officials of throwing in tear gas and shooting rubber guns to clear out the area.

In a report from The Patriot Hill, the USPP denied such allegations and claimed that Lafayette Square had already been cleared out by 7 p.m. before the state-mandated curfew. Unfortunately, 51 police officers were injured, although no arrests were made.

Having no recorded deaths, or protester injury, prominent Democratic figures, Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Adam Schiff compared the incident to the bloody Tiananmen massacre. In a report from The Hill, Schiff, who served as the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said the country is losing its own “moral authority.” Schumer claimed that Trump had condoned the crimes abroad, while in America, police officers are using force against “peaceful protesters.”

Schumer said that “While we pause to remember the innocent lives lost and demand that the Chinese government reckon,” the country should also “acknowledge” its authority to condone any forms of violence here in America. The prominent Democratic figure also referred to the “church walk,” by claiming that “when our police attack peaceful protestors fighting for a more just society with tear gas, rubber bullets, and flash bang grenades, we not only violate American values.” He concluded that at the same time, the country is also losing “our credibility when advocating for human rights and democratic freedoms abroad.”

Moreover, the Washington Examiner also reported how the Senator compared the allegations against Trump to the deadly communist massacre. He described the Lincoln Memorial filled with “camouflaged troops.” Schumer added, “When you see the image of troops dressed for combat, flanking the Lincoln Memorial, an altar to freedom, you cannot help but think of Tiananmen Square.”

Other left-wing media establishments joined in the fun, such as the Washington Post, who wrote an “analysis” on the comparison between the “Tiananmen Square to Lafayette Square.”

However, throughout the week-long protests, millions of dollars worth of store goods and business infrastructures have been either ransacked or burned down, as protests continued to turn violent. What’s even more disturbing is that police officers have become a target of such violence. In fact, on Thursday, an NYPD officer was stabbed in the neck in Brooklyn after an altercation took place.

Unfortunately, such an incident is nothing compared to the large scale deaths in Tiananmen square.
