On Monday, President Donald Trump had given the green light to General Services Administrator Emily Murphy to begin the transition process for former Vice President Joe Biden, despite the fact that final election results were not yet released.

In a social media post, the Commander-in-Chief had given Murphy the power to begin the transition process for the “best interest of the country.” The President continued that he trusted Murphy to do “what needs to be done” in terms of White House protocols; however, the President reminded Republicans that he will continue to fight for fair election results. “Our case STRONGLY continues, we will keep up the good fight, and I believe we will prevail!” Trump wrote.

Also, the President explained that Murphy’s safety had prompted him to make the decision. In another Twitter post, Trump claimed that the General Services Administrator had received a lot of threats if the President refused to begin the transition process.

The President issued his statement after Murphy wrote a letter to Biden, announcing that she had made the transition resources available to him and his team. In her letter, Murphy stated that she was not pressured by any member of the Trump administration to the timing of her decision. Moreover, Murphy explained that the move has no political implications and does not represent the President’s decision to concede with the dubious election results. “GSA does not dictate the outcome of legal disputes and recounts, nor does it determine whether such proceedings are reasonable or justified,” the GSA administrator wrote.

Murphy explained that there are issues that are only for competent court and not up for the GSA to decide. As a government agency, she explained that their only role is to improve federal procurement and handle property management. She then stressed out that her role has nothing to do with the contested election results. She also encouraged lawmakers to reconsider the Act.

Finally, Murphy confirmed the President’s statements saying that she had received numerous threats, harassment, and abuse from online pundits, which led her to make the decision.

Murphy indicated that if the transition process begins, Biden would have $6,300,000 available at his team’s disposal. In addition, he would also receive $1,000,000to help him prepare his orientation for his appointees.

As expected, Biden’s running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, welcomed the news. Despite Murphy’s statements asserting that it was her agency’s independent decision, Harris believed that the announcement is a signal that they were indeed the winners of the highly contested 2020 elections.

Biden-Harris Transition Executive Director Yohannes Abraham also responded to Murphy’s announcement, saying that it will give the transition team the opportunity to tackle the country’s challenges and issues. Abraham particularly cited the need to resolve the coronavirus pandemic and help the economy to bounce back.
