Two members of a Republican campaign team were gunned down in Minneapolis in what appears to be a premeditated attack. The staffers were working for Republican Lacy Johnson, who is challenging Ilhan Omar for her seat. The two were standing outside a Super USA convenience store when the assailant or assailants approached them on foot and shot them down in cold blood. The attackers were able to flee the scene after the incident. Unfortunately, one of the two victims died because of gunshot wounds.

The team member who died was only 17 years old while the other victim was hospitalized because of injuries sustained. Although the two were not carrying out campaign duties when they were attacked, it is obvious that they were targeted because of what they were doing.

Johnson’s campaign has released an official statement regarding the attack, “Today, we are shocked and saddened to learn of this senseless act of violence. It is shocking and unnecessary acts of violence like this that prove why change is more needed than ever in our community.”

The two campaigners could have been attacked by supporters of Omar. The congresswoman was born in Somalia, and many of her followers in the city are immigrants. Minneapolis has a very large population of Somalis, many of whom are not going to support a Republican. The area is crime-ridden as well.

The shooting is just the latest violent incident in the city that became the epicenter of a series of protests that rocked the country. .There has been an increase in violent crime in the city, and it is disrupting the ordinary citizens. The city council there, which has advocated for abolishing or defunding the police, is now looking for the cops and wondering why they are not responding fast enough. That’s the same council that unanimously voted to abolish the police.

The police in Minneapolis and in many other American cities are hesitant to arrest people because they might end up losing their job, even if they did nothing wrong. The future doesn’t really look too good for the Democrat-run cities. The attack on the two Republican campaigners might just be the start of the escalation of violence.
