On Monday, Americans showed their support for President Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention. According to a C-SPAN live stream, data showed that RNC’s TV rating was higher than the opening night of former Vice President and Democratic nominee, Joe Biden’s acceptance speech.

The RNC’s success came after experts predicted that it would become a massive flop the way the Democratic National Convention had. Last week, the DNC struggled with staggering viewership as it dropped by up to 25 percent during the first night. By the second night, it even became worse with a 48 percent decline. Even Hollywood celebrities and Democratic supporters complained that the convention was extremely “boring” and even “unwatchable”.

In a report from The Hill, C-Span’s RNC viewership hit 440,000 views, while the DNC only had 76,000 views. The media outlet added that despite former First Lady Michelle Obama headlined the event, the convention only had 18.7 million viewers in terms of broadcast media.

In her speech, the former First Lady blasted Trump as incompetent and unfit to lead the country. However, despite Obama’s fiery words, the event failed to pique audience interest and was 21 percent lower than the number that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had in her 2016 nomination acceptance speech. Moreover, it was even 38 percent lower than the number of viewership that Trump had when he accepted his Republican nomination.

According to The Post Millennial’s Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Ballingall, he believed that Michelle Obama’s speech was bombed after it performed poorly in terms of digital metrics. Ballingall claimed that Obama’s views were buried by a relatively unknown GOP congressional candidate Kimberly Klacik, “The former first lady was completely outdone by an unknown house candidate,” he noted citing engagement and views across multiple social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube.

In the said advertisement, Klacik encouraged the audience to take a walk with her in the city of Baltimore, showing the poor living conditions that five decades of Democrat leadership had brought. In her ad, the African-American women also spoke on behalf of African-American communities that black people do not have to necessarily vote for Democrats.

For the final night of the convention, the Nielsen Media Research estimated that 19.22 Americans watched Biden across ten different media networks namely, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, CNN, Fox Business, FOXNC, MSNBC, and Newsy. Ryan Girdusky claimed that the Democrats lost as much as 5 million views than what they had four years ago.

Unlike the DNC, the Republican Convention was also filled with enigmatic speakers, such as Donald Trump Jr. who described Biden as the country’s “Loch Ness Monster”, and other African-American conservatives such as NFL star Hershel Walker, and Democrat and Georgia State Representative Vernon Jones.
