New York City is experiencing a major surge in violence like other cities that are run by Democrats. The police have confirmed more than two dozen shootings within a 48-hour time-span. That includes four victims who have died because of gun violence.

One incident that was particularly concerning was the shooting and killing of an off-duty correction officer. The officer was shot while walking down a street after leaving a party. He was taken to a hospital but he later died because of the injuries he sustained. The officer was identified as John Jeff.

The Correction Officers Benevolent Association issued a statement regarding the shooting. “Early this morning, the Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association was notified that New York City Correction Officer John Jeff, assigned to the Anna M. Kross Center on Rikers Island, was found dead in South Jamaica Queens. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was 28 years old and was on the job for just over two years with his whole life and career ahead of him. He was well-liked and highly regarded by his fellow officers,” read the statement. It seems that the shooting was planned since three cars cornered him in the street. The shooter grabbed Jeff’s gun and shot him with it.

Mayor Bill de Blasio is having a hard time controlling the violence in his city. Earlier this month, de Blasio actually blamed the coronavirus for the rise in gun violence in his city. He has said that the pandemic has caused a breakdown in the criminal justice system, allowing criminals to roam the streets of the city. That’s not an excuse for him, however. Having more criminals on the streets just means that he will have to work doubly hard to fight criminality. Blaming the pandemic just sounds like he’s not going to do anything about the rising violence. It doesn’t seem like he has anything planned that can help clear the streets of New York.

On top of the rising criminality, the city is also facing the challenge of its wealthy residents fleeing. That means they will have a harder time finding a source of revenue. It seems that Mayor Bill de Blasio is intent on running the city down into the ground.
