TikTok is threatening to take legal action against the executive order that has been issued by President Donald Trump against it. The President’s order would ban the app, which is owned by a Chinese company, from doing business in the United States. Officials of the company behind the app are saying that the order can set a dangerous precedent.

The popular app has been in the center of controversy as security experts have warned that it can be used for spying and that the information of the users can be compromised. It has been caught in the middle of escalating tensions between China and the United States. There have been warnings that the app can be used to collect data of users and be used for spying on American government officials. TikTok has denied the allegations against it, and Chinese officials have protested the banning.

Officials of the app claimed that there has been no due process and that they are shocked by the order. “This Executive Order risks undermining global businesses’ trust in the United States’ commitment to the rule of law, which has served as a magnet for investment and spurred decades of American economic growth,” TikTok made the statement in a blog post.

They added that the order “sets a dangerous precedent for the concept of free expression and open markets. We will pursue all remedies available to us in order to ensure that the rule of law is not discarded and that our company and our users are treated fairly—if not by the Administration, then by the US courts.”

TikTok is owned by a Beijing based company called ByteDance. It was not the only Chinese company that has been targeted by the President. The popular messaging app WeChat has also been affected by another order.

These companies are being affected by the growing tension between the United States and China. These trade frictions are just part of an ongoing contest between the two countries, and China is acting very aggressively towards its neighboring countries as well from India to Japan. There is a growing fear that a hot war can erupt between the United States and China pretty soon if tensions are not eased.
