Last Sunday was pretty violent for New York City as 16 shooting incidents were reported there. The shootings left 20 people wounded. Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities for that day, although some feel it’s only a matter of time before there will be a next shooting fatality. Monday was only slightly better for Mayor Bill de Blasio’s city. There were seven reported shooting incidents then, with 13 reported victims.

The shootings over the weekend and on Monday gave the city a total of 777 shootings for 2020. That already surpasses the total number of shootings for the full year of 2019. Joseph Giacalone, a John Jay College of Criminal Justice adjunct professor, was quoted by the New York Post saying, “It only gets worse from here. As the shootings continue, so will retaliation. It’s a vicious cycle that the NYPD worked hard to mitigate, but that they are no longer able and, in some cases, willing to do,” he added.

New York isn’t the only Democrat-ruled city that is drowning in gun violence right now. Nine people were killed over the weekend during shooting incidents. Chicago has seen a 139% increase in gun violence for July 2020 when compared to July 2019. But when you listen to Chicago’s mayor Lightfoot, you would suppose that none of that is her fault. She is trying to pin the blame for all the gun violence in her city for all the states surrounding her with lax gun laws.

What she fails to recognize is that Chicago has become a violent city in recent years because of all the gang violence going on. The strict gun laws in the city are hurting the law-abiding citizens who will only get guns for their protection. Gang members don’t really bother about rules and laws imposed by the government.

The violence in the cities is unfolding even as protesters are calling for the defunding and abolishing of the police. If something like that pushes through, those who will be affected by all of them are ordinary residents who rely on cops for their protection. Many of the Democrat officials of the cities are supporting the calls for defunding the police. They can afford to support the misguided cause since they have private security paid for by their local governments. They don’t really care about the ordinary people who will be most affected by the recent lockdown.
