Atlanta City became the latest American city to fall into chaos after mobs or rioters flocked to the streets following the death of Rayshard Brooks. The 27-year-old Brooks was shot by a police officer during an incident that took place at a Wendy’s. Following news of Brook’s death, people in Atlanta took to the streets in order to protest. The peaceful demonstration soon turned violent as several buildings were burned, including the Wendy’s where the incident happened.

Atlanta police was alerted that there was a vehicle blocking the drive-thru of a Wendy’s. It was blocking the way that people had to drive around the vehicle. When the police responded, they found Rayshard Brooks sleeping inside the vehicle. The cops asked him to take a field sobriety test which he failed and after that, they tried taking him into custody. Brooks resisted and a scuffle ensued. One of the police officers tried to tase him but Brooks managed to grab the taser and he started fleeing.

Police officers chased him and he pointed the taser at the pursuing officer. That was when one of the cops shot him. He was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery. He died while undergoing treatment.

As news of Brooks’ death started to spread, the protestors started coming out. They burned the Wendy’s where the incident took place and blocked the interstate. It’s just a matter of time before looting and rioting go out of hand just like how it got during the protests for the death of George Floyd, some of which are still ongoing.

The police chief of Atalanta resigned over the incident. “Out of a deep and abiding love for this City and this department, I offered to step aside as police chief. I have faith in the Mayor, and it is time for the city to move forward and build trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve,” the police chief said in a statement.

Unfortunately for the police in the city, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has already come out calling for the firing of the officer who killed Brooks and has said that she does not believe it is a justified shooting.
