On Monday, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany claimed that President Donald Trump is greatly “appalled” by left-wing supporters’ propaganda to defund the US police departments.

After violent riots broke out over the death of George Floyd, Democrats have lobbied to defund the police force. With increasing pressure and attacks on law enforcement officers, a reporter asked McEnany what does Trump think about defunding or dismantling the police force. “It’s a really good question,” McEnany said. She claimed that “The president is appalled by the defunding of the police movement.” The Press Secretary also remarked how politicians, such as far-left congresswomen, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep.Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Ilhan Omar, and even a former Clinton and Eric Holder spokesperson Brian Fallon had supported the move. McEnany noted the “extraordinary demands” that the Democrat politicians had, starting from defunding ICE, to now defunding the police force. She also echoed the increasing concerns of public safety, warning that the budget cuts will leave people vulnerable to criminals. “This is rolling back the protective layers that protect Americans in their homes and their places of business. He is appalled by it.” Moreover, McEnany described that it was “remarkable” to hear such suggestions from the Democratic party. The Press Secretary also assured that while there were no announcements yet, the President recognizes the injustices that had been committed over the death of George Floyd, and had been looking into several proposals to resolve the issues.

During the briefing, McEnany also reminded the public that black lives matter, including those that were killed during the riots. The Press Secretary was referring to the death of a 77-year-old Police Captain, David Dorn. Just last week, Dorn was shot while he was attempting to defend a pawn shop in St. Louis. Based on the surveillance footage, the police department was able to make an arrest on 24-year-old Stephen Cannon.

McEnany also commemorated the death of a Federal Officer Patrick Underwood, who was also killed in Oakland, California. Underwood was shot as nationwide protests erupted. The officer was initially rushed to the hospital but had eventually succumbed to his fatal injuries. “All black lives matter but in terms of the movement ‘Black Lives Matter,’ they define themselves as ‘Defund the Police,’ and that’s something that the President stands against,” McEnany concluded.
