As nationwide protests erupted across cities in America, left-wing supporters have used the riot to push for their Democratic agenda, as well as to condone President Donald Trump’s decision.

One of those who have attacked Trump was former Secretary of Defense, James Mattis. Last week, Mattis claimed that the administration had incited violence against “peaceful protesters” and that there was only a “small number’’ of demonstrators who had broken the law. However, famed attorney John M. Dowd came to the President’s defense.

In a letter, Dowd expressed his disappointment over Mattis’s statements. The attorney wrote that he has “slept on your statement and woke up appalled and upset. You lost me.” Dowd added that he had never “dreamed” that left-wing politicians would only use the former Secretary of Defense to push for their political gain. However, Dowd recognized that Mattis did what every Marine should do, and that is to “keep their word.”

He also slammed Mattis’s statements that the demonstrators who had protested near Lafayette park were anything but peaceful. The famed attorney believed that rather than being labeled as protesters, they should be considered as “terrorists” for their “hate-filled” crimes of burning down and destroying property that might come in their way. He also pointed out that as a former Marine, he should support the police whenever there is a threat of danger.

Dowd also reminded Mattis of how the previous administration had used the Marines to de-escalate and maintain order during a protest. “Did you forget that President Bush used active-duty Marines to quell the riots in LA?” He explained that Trump had to deal with something more serious, especially since some of the Democratic mayors and governors refused to cooperate with the administration. He pointed out that even a Massachusetts Attorney General believed that committing arson is a good form of protest. He also cited how three police officers were shot and stabbed in Brooklyn.

Moreover, Dowd also questioned Mattis’s rhetoric, “Think about it. Should he be upset about the obvious failure of leadership? Where are you, Jim?” He also brought back the failures of the Obama administration. Dowd claimed that the former President had abandoned the black communities, and provided Mexican drug cartels with federal firearms. He added, “You remember, he fired you.” He also went on to question how Mattis had failed to see Trump’s win, especially with how he had handled the problem in the Middle East, “Did you applaud the President when he wanted to save American lives by bringing them home in one piece?”

President Donald Trump published the letter in a social media post. The President claimed that the only common thing about him and Obama is that they both have the “honor” of firing the former Defense Secretary. Trump also described Mattis as “chaos” and that his priority was not on the military, but rather, creating media relations. The President concluded that he had made the right decision, “Glad he is gone!”
