Protesters chased and mobbed a Fox News reporter outside of the White House early Saturday morning following the riots and violent protests after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Fox News reporter Leland Vittert was seen on video being chased and shouted at by a group of angry protesters outside the White House. “We took a good thumping,” he said.

Vittert was doing live coverage of the riot outside the White House when a group of protesters interrupted him and shouted profanities and obscenities at him and his crew. According to Vittert, he saw the protesters stop protesting whatever it was they were protesting about and suddenly turned on them.

The attack was caught on video by the Daily Caller crew, where it could be seen that angry protesters started shouting at the Fox News reporter. “Fuck Fox News! Fuck Fox News!” Another man shouted: “Fuck that fake-ass news!”

In a statement after the incident, Vittert explained that when covering these kinds of protests, he expects that there would be violence, especially when there are clashes with the police, but what makes this different is that he felt like they were really being “targeted.” “Our crew and I—the crowd turned on us. It was clear that it was organized, and then a mob descended on us [and] chased us out of Lafayette Park there.”

Vittert, together with his photographer Christian Galdabini, was chased and trailed by an angry mob before police finally dispersed them. The Daily Caller crew who followed Vittert also claimed that one of the protesters even took Vittert’s microphone and threw it at his back.

“It was the most scared I have been since being chased out of Tahrir Square by a group from the Muslim Brotherhood,” Vittert said. He recalled a group of approximately 50 to 60 people who chased them and smashed their cameras, took away his microphone, and even exerted physical force. Vittert recalls that as soon as he went on-air, a large crowd came to him and started chanting “Fuck Fox News” and started pushing him.

When asked to describe the situation, Vittert explained that the protesters outside the White House were “really looking to pick a fight.” He felt that those people weren’t really interested in being heard or sending a unified message; instead, they were more interested in “instigating violence.”

Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott commended the reporting of Vittert and Galdabini, and released a statement, saying that they strongly condemn those kinds of actions towards Fox News Media and other reporters from media outlets, who are just trying to do their jobs as reporters and journalists.
