President Donald Trump warned Democrat and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey to “get his act together” as protesters had burned down and ransacked the city’s 3rd precinct last Thursday night.

In a Twitter post, Trump claimed that if the violence continues, he would be forced to send the National Guard to help de-escalate the situation. On Friday morning, the President expressed his increasing concern about the growing violence and anarchy in the city. “I can’t stand back & watch this happen to a great American City, Minneapolis,” Trump wrote on his social media post. He continued that, “A total lack of leadership. Either the very weak Radical Left Mayor, Jacob Frey, get his act together and bring the city under control, or I will send in the National Guard & get the job done right.”

In a follow-up tweet, the President claimed that the demonstrators have disrespected George Floyd’s memory by wreaking havoc on their own community. He added that he had spoken with Minnesota Gov. Yim Walz and gave the green light to send in the military. The President warned, “when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you.”

The Minneapolis Mayor confirmed that he had made the decision to evacuate the city’s precinct due to increasing violence and tension from the protesters. Frey explained that the people’s safety weighed more than the “symbolism” that the police building stood for. Frey also slapped back against the President for allegedly undermining his leadership. The Mayor said that the President “knows nothing about the strength of Minneapolis. We are as strong as hell. Is this a difficult time period? Yes. But you better be damn sure we are going to get through this.”

The station’s spokesman confirmed the evacuation. Based on local reports, the protesters had managed to get into the police building at around 10 p.m., turned off fire alarms and sprinklers, and set the building on fire. Some of the police officers ran on top of the roof and were later rescued by helicopters. Initially, officers tried to disperse the angry crowd using shots and tear gas, but to no avail.

On Wednesday, the Patriot Hill reported that looters broke into a local Target store, stole carts of appliances, and groceries, cleaning out entire store shelves.

Moreover, a dozen people lit a nearby Autozone and Cub Food Store.

In a White House briefing, Press Sec. Kayleigh McEnany claimed that Trump was “very upset” after watching George Floyd’s video. McEnany told reporters that the President thought it was “egregious, appalling and tragic,” and promised that the President would ensure that justice is served.

The Star Tribune reported that more than 500 members of the National Guard were called in by Gov. Walz to help with the situation.
