On Monday, the Chinese government’s foreign ministry played the victim card regarding the coronavirus disinformation issues then followed up by saying that the United States government is “hiding something.”

“China always stands against disinformation campaigns. We are victims rather than producers of disinformation. Peddling disinformation and recrimination are by no means prescription for international anti-pandemic cooperation and should be rejected by all,” the Chinese spokesperson for foreign ministry wrote in their official Twitter account.

Then the foreign ministry tweeted baseless claims, asking why the US opts to blame others. “Growing doubts over the US government’s handling of the #COVID19, e.g. When did the first infection occur in the US? Is the US government hiding something?”

The communist country’s government has been under criticism after reports of its mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic. The COVID-19 virus first originated in a wet market or a virology lab in Wuhan, China, reports say. China allegedly reported the virus outbreak to the WHO in late December but has failed to disclose vital information like the possibility of human to human transmission.

Since then, the Chinese Communist Party (CCPS) has been on a disinformation campaign in hopes of deflecting the blame from Beijing’s obvious mishandling of the health crisis.

Even the World Health Organization (WHO) that was supposed to be a “global” health organization has been accused of playing like the “Wuhan” Health Organization for showing bias with China and reportedly working with them in hiding vital information about the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this month, President Donald Trump halted funding for the health organization and put them under further investigation.

The Chinese government is notorious for tirelessly trying to deflect the blame from them through a series of campaigns. A few weeks ago, the CIA concluded that China was caught falsifying data regarding the number of coronavirus cases and deaths in their country.

To date, its most aggressive strategy is pinning the United States as the origin of the deadly coronavirus. On March 12, the deputy director of the Chinese foreign ministry information department, Zhao Lijian tweeted, saying that “It may be that the US military brought the epidemic to Wuhan.”

Aside from Twitter, the CCP has been using its state-owned news outlet, The Global Times, to further spread false information about the coronavirus and the involvement of the United States.
