On Thursday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that it would give an additional $30 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) after President Donald Trump decided to defund the organization over the alleged Chinese cover-up.

Annually, the United States taxpayers contribute to as much as $400 million to the WHO. However, the recent accusation of an alleged coronavirus cover-up and its close ties with China had pushed the Trump administration to halt the millions of dollars worth of funds for the health organization.

While the rest of the world is in survival mode, Communist China sees it as a good opportunity for propaganda. In fact, the CCP decided to save the day by donating $30 million to help WHO combat the deadly coronavirus pandemic, as well as to support and strengthen developing countries’ health systems. The sudden act of charity was a far cry from the annual, $86 million the communist country donates to WHO.

In an official statement from Foreign Ministry spokesman, Geng Shuang, the said donation “reflects the support and trust of the Chinese government and people for WHO.” Another spokesperson, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also stated that “We should encourage instead of condemn the WHO. We should support, instead of undermining it.”

In fact, the Chinese Communist Party had been critical of President Trump’s decision to make WHO accountable for their handling of the coronavirus pandemic. It had even asked Foreign Ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian to spread conspiracy theories that the United States had originally developed the virus on a US military base, and purposely planted the contagion in the Wuhan wet market. Scientists refuted China’s accusations, stating that there is no evidence to suggest that the coronavirus originated in the country.

The problem is that recent events suggested a rather well-orchestrated cover-up. Based on previous reports, Taiwan had already sent an email to the health organization inquiring about the news of a contagious respiratory disease, way before China confirmed the existence of the COVID-19 virus.

However, instead of launching a full-blown investigation, the WHO chose to ignore Taiwan’s inquiry and denied the fact that the COVID-19 virus can be transmitted from human to human contact. Instead, the health organization praised China’s handling of the outbreak and criticized countries that issued a travel ban including, President Donald Trump.

The WHO’s director, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, also received massive backlash, specifically among US politicians who have lobbied for his resignation. In fact, Republican Senator Martha McSally claimed that the Ethiopian leader had “deceived the world” by praising the communist country’s “transparency” amidst the outbreak.

Even Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, said that the United States might not return the $400 million funding to the WHO. In an interview for Fox News Channel’s “Ingraham Angle,” Pompeo believed that the health organization needs “structural reform.” “I think we’ve got to take a real hard look at the WHO and what we do coming out of this. …We need a structural fix for the WHO,” the secretary of state said.

Laura Ingraham, the show’s host, agreed that Ghebreyesus is not “part of the solution.” She then asked Pompeo if the WHO’s director-general’s resignation might be one of the qualifications for the country to move forward with the funding. The secretary of state responded that it might be more than just Ghebreyesus’ resignation.
