Global Times, a China-owned state media ridiculed Missouri’s lawsuit demanding reparations for the massive damages caused by the “Wuhan virus.”

On Wednesday, the state media dismissed Missouri’s accusation, describing the lawsuit as a “farce” and “publicity stunt.” The Global Times also reported that China would never pay or give in to the state’s demand.

At the moment, the said lawsuit is in preliminary stages. Based on the state’s filing, China has to pay $44 billion in repatriation for the health and economic damages for the people of Missouri. Prosecutors cited that they wanted to make Communist China accountable for “ruining lives and damaging the public order and economy of the State of Missouri.”

The state’s filing indicated that the Chinese Communist party already knew that the virus, which originated from the Wuhan wet markets, have been highly contagious. In fact, doctors from Wuhan had already warned about the disease as early as December to early January.

However, instead of revealing such information, the government tried to cover it up, and even tried to silence doctors who failed to follow Chinese guidelines, including Ai Fen, Li Wenliang, who had mysteriously died or simply disappeared. In a study by the University of Southampton’s WorldPop population mapping, data had indicated that China had the opportunity to prevent as much as 95% of global coronavirus infection. Unfortunately, the communist party failed to do so.

In fact, the government responded by denouncing Missouri’s call for repatriation. As the Global Times wrote, “This is completely a farce. Missouri is trying to hold China accountable for the COVID-19 pandemic in a US court, which is almost impossible to succeed.” The Global Times suggested that if Missouri wanted to file a legitimate lawsuit, it would have to go through international court, in compliance with international laws.

The problem is that even in those courts, China had a notoriety for dismissing court rulings. In fact, Beijing refused to acknowledge the 2016 Hague ruling, which cites that the country’s claim on the South China Sea is illegal. To make matters worse, China had used the global economic and health crisis as an opportunity to continue to construct illegal facilities in the Philippine and Vietnamese territories, as well as giving it Chinese names.

The publication continued to say that it would be impossible for Missouri to win the lawsuit, and added that Chinese repatriations “will never happen.” The state media even had the audacity to say that China’s success in terms of combating the deadly virus was evident and that the lawsuit will not have any legal implications for the communist country. “There have been several anti-Chinese chapters in US history. This time, it is led by a US government,” the Global Times cited. The publication also confidently claimed that Missouri’s lawsuit would not result in similar claims from the rest of the US states.

Even the government’s spokesman, Geng Shuang, told reporters that the filing will go nowhere and that the “lawsuit” has no factual or legal basis. It only invites ridicule.

The Chinese government remarked that the US government wanted to steer away from the people’s attention to the recent market collapse of the oil industry. On the contrary, if there is one country that rejoices in a sudden market drop, it would be China. Being the top importer of crude oil, Reuters reported that China had been taking advantage of the low demand to double its oil reserves.

Missouri, along with other countries such as Germany, France, and the UK, took action to make China pay for the deadly pandemic.
