After President Donald Trump’s encouraging tweets to liberate Michigan and Virginia, Americans gathered in front of the Pennsylvania Capitol in Harrisburg to protest against strict coronavirus orders by Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf.

Despite the global health and economic crisis, GOP supporters were able to create a positive atmosphere. Some protesters proudly carried American and Revolutionary Flags with words “Don’t Tread on Me.”

Others wore MAGA gear while carrying signs that said: “SOME PEOPLE WANT TO WORK.” A caravan of vehicles also went around carrying pro-Trump flags, as they honked their horns and were greeted with cheers and applause. One of the event organizers, Rep Sen. Doug Mastriano, recited the pledge of allegiance stating that it was a “great day to be an American in Pennsylvania.”

According to a report from Breitbart News, business owners are coming together to fight against the “unjustifiable” and “unconstitutional” business closure. The media outlet shared an interview from one of the protesters, Chris Miller, who owns the Scranton Golf Center. Miller recounted that he had to close down his shop for four weeks due to strict and drastic measures the state had implemented against the COVID-19 virus. Miller said that it’s not just about the money, but as well as fighting for their constitutional right.

“It’s my right to open and continue to work,” the business owner explained. Some of the states who also had their share of protesters due to the strict stay-at-home orders include California, Colorado, Maryland, Ohio, New York, Virginia, Michigan and OklahomaNevada, Idaho, Minnesota, Kentucky, Utah, Oregon, North Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, Florida, Montana, Wisconsin, Washington, Texas, New Hampshire.

While Americans came together from different states to fight for their constitutional right, tech giant Facebook refused to cooperate and shut down social media pages that promote in-person gatherings. In a statement for Fox News, the tech giant claimed that: “Unless the government prohibits the event during this time, we allow it to be organized on Facebook. For this same reason, events that defy the government’s guidance on social distancing aren’t allowed on Facebook.”

Experts also expressed their growing concern over the seeming bi-partisanship in Silicon Valley. According to Cornell Law School professor William A. Jacobson, the media giant might be favoring state governments in order to “silence” those in the opposition. In fact, Jacobson believed that Facebook had violated its role as a private entity, and rather, playing the role of a powerful government arm.

Protesters have used the social media site to send invites for the event. However, Facebook claimed that they would allow the pages as long as they hold virtual rallies and follow strict stay-at-home orders. The tech giant also threatened to shut down those who refused to follow the government guidelines.

Due to the increasing number of protests against strict coronavirus guidelines, political commentator Ben Shapiro from the Daily Wire said that the country must re-open. The staunch GOP supporter agreed with the president’s immediate economic re-opening. “I believe that the American citizen is generally a responsible human being who is capable of going back to work, wearing a mask, staying six feet away from each other,” Shapiro said in his self-titled show.

Shapiro added that he was “bewildered” and even “terrified” that local government is enforcing what he called the “dumbest crap” to prevent residents from spreading the deadly “Chinese virus.”
