The Coronavirus Response Coordinator for the White House Coronavirus Task Force, Dr. Deborah Birx, said that Americans should focus on following social distancing guidelines in the coming two weeks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the United States. Dr. Birx noted that this is not the right time to be going out to buy groceries or go out to the pharmacy. She said that this is the time to keep families safe. She also mentioned that certain metro areas are seeing an increase in the number of cases, particularly Colorado, Pennsylvania, and the Washington DC areas. She is hoping that if people keep on doing social distancing for the next two weeks, then they could significantly help lower the number of coronavirus cases.

Dr. Anthony Fauci said that there are up to four hotspots within the United States, but other areas in the country can help prevent the further spread of the disease by following the guidelines that have been set by the government. He said that everyone should maintain at least a minimal amount of physical separation so that the virus would have no chance of jumping from one person to another.

Health officials have warned that there could be a dramatic rise in the number of coronavirus casualties in the coming week, especially in hard-hit areas like New York and the state of Louisiana. Based on the data available, hundreds of people could die on a daily basis in New York City because of the virus. New York City mayor Cuomo estimated that the number could be as high as 700 deaths per day once the peak of the pandemic hits his city. According to the health officials, the new cases being reported now were those infected two to three weeks ago, and if social distancing measures work, then the number of new cases should start to show a decline, though the number of deaths could still go up.

The United States now has over 297,600 cases and more than 8,000 deaths, making it the country with the highest number of Covid-19 cases. However, the number reported by China is highly disputed and is believed to be way below the actual numbers.
