Lead House Impeachment Manager Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) told NBC host Chuck Todd that President Trump is “vindictive” and accused him of threatening him, on “Meet the Press.”

Tapper asked Schiff about the criticism he got from three Republican senators for referring to a CBS story that mentioned any Senator voting against the president would have “their head on a pike,” during his closing statement in the impeachment trial.

“What may be personal, though, and I think I have to be very candid about this, is I made the argument that it’s going to require moral courage to stand up to this president,” Schiff said. “I don’t think there’s any doubt about it. And if you think there is, look at the president’s tweets about me today saying that I should ‘pay a price.’”

“Do you take that as a threat?” asked Todd.

“I think it’s intended to be,” Schiff responded.

Schiff was referring to Trump’s tweet that read: “Shifty Adam Schiff is a CORRUPT POLITICIAN, and probably a very sick man. He has not paid the price, yet, for what he has done to our Country!”

Senator James Lankford (R-OK) defended President Trump’s tweet, saying it’s “political” and was no different than when House Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) or Schiff say people will pay the price when it comes election time.

“I don’t think it’s a death threat. I don’t think he’s encouraging a death threat,” Lankford said to host Jake Tapper on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday.

Tapper asked if the tweet was offensive to him.

Lankford replied he is “offended only because Adam Schiff believes that the only reason that we act the way that we do is because the president’s going to put our head on a pike.”

“He’s saying, you’re going to ignore all the facts, and you’re only doing this because we’re afraid of the president rather than we will actually be fair in the process and actually look at the facts,” Lankford added.
