The charter bus carrying Covington Catholic high-school students back from the March for Life rally in Washington, D.C. was involved in a crash that left one person dead and several others injured.

A car collided with the bus head-on around 7:20 a.m., in the northbound lanes of the AA highway in California Crossroads in Campbell County.

The driver of the car was killed, police said. The bus driver was injured, one student had a bloody nose and others had bumps and bruises, according to Fox News. The bus driver were taken to the hospital for treatment.

An eyewitness said the car was in the wrong lane.

“I glanced over and looked and all I’d seen was headlights. I was able to get out of the way and I looked back to make sure everything was okay. I didn’t see anything happen, so I kept going,” Ricky Lynn said. Lynn added the weather was bad.

“This morning, a bus carrying students and chaperones home from the March for Life in Washington, D.C. was involved in an accident,” said Laura Keener, Communications Director of the Diocese of Covington. “EMT personnel and the Campbell County police have been at the scene and are handling the matter. Please join us in praying for everyone involved in this accident.”

The accident is still being investigated.

Covington Catholic high school made headlines earlier in January when CNN settled a defamation lawsuit with Covington student Nick Sandman, after CNN’s coverage of the viral video of the interaction between Sandmann and Omaha Native American Nathan Phillips at the March for Life event in 2019. The media giant falsely attacked Sandmann, portraying him of racial harassment. A longer video surfaced that showed Sandmann did nothing wrong and did not instigate the exchange.

Other lawsuits were filed against NBC Universal,The Washington Post, and The Enquirer by Sandamnn.

Sandmann attended the March for Life again this year and posted photos to his social media.

No word on whether Sandmann was on the bus that was involved in the accident.

President Trump tweeted a photo of Sandmann and thanked him for commenting that his speech at the March for Life “was one of the best in the history of his presidency.”
