In his opening statement before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, Justice Department Inspector General Horowitz said, “We are deeply concerned that so many basic and fundamental errors were made by three separate, hand-picked investigative teams; on one of the most sensitive FBI investigations; after the matter had been briefed to the highest levels within the FBI; even though the information sought through the use of FISA authority related so closely to an ongoing presidential campaign; and even though those involved with the investigation knew that their actions were likely to be subjected to close scrutiny.”

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) made a critical point by stating the “434 page report outlines 17 major errors and misstatements that were made by the FBI and DOJ in securing FISA warrants, a number of them are deeply, deeply troubling — these are not typos they are not small inadvertent errors – these are grotesque abuse of power.”

Cruz said the first error is the primary subsource reporting that raised serious questions about the Steele Dossier. Steele misstated or exaggerated multiple sections of the report, and based on “rumor and speculation.” The FBI knew the basis of the dossier was unreliable.

Watch:

The second error was “a lawyer in the @FBI altered an email and created fraudulent evidence that senior officials used in a sworn statement to the court to ultimately obtain a FISA warrant.”

Cruz pointed out that omitting Carter Page’s prior relationship as a United States intelligence agent was the second error. “When you don’t the court that you’re deceiving the court,” said Cruz. He also added that if a private citizen did something like this they would be prosecuted for fabricating evidence, obstruction of justice, and perjury.

Watch:

Third major omission was that the entire operation was funded by the DNC — Hillary Clinton campaign and Democrats.
