During Thursday’s impeachment hearings, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) introduced an amendment to strike the reference of former Vice President Joe Biden from the impeachment articles to add a reference to Hunter Biden and his employment at Burisma, Ukraine’s natural gas company.

Gaetz pointed out Hunter Biden was hired at Burisma a few months after being discharged from the Navy Reserve for drug use, and was paid $86,000 per month – five times more than a board member of Exxon Mobile — while his dad was Vice President of the United States.

Gaetz went on to reference a story from The New Yorker about Hunter, who had admitted he had not slept for several days and found himself wandering in a homeless encampment in search of cocaine. Gaetz included details of Hunter leaving a crack pipe, a bag of cocaine, and a Secret Service business card in his Hertz car rental, which led to Hunter’s discharge from the Navy Reserve.

Gaetz stated, “I don’t want to make light of anybody’s substance abuse issues. I know the president’s working real hard to solve those throughout the country. But it’s a little hard to believe that Burisma hired Hunter Biden to resolve their international disputes when he could not resolve his own dispute with Hertz rental car over leaving cocaine and a crack pipe in the car.”

Gaetz added, “Again, I’m not casting any judgment on any challenges someone goes through in their personal life, but it’s just hard to believe that this is the guy wandering through homeless encampments buying crack who was worth $86,000 a month to Burisma Holdings.”
