Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Never Wants To Hear Free Stuff Again, Claims ‘They Are Public Goods’
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) advised her fellow Democrats to stop using the phrase “free stuff” and to start using a new phrase, “public goods.” The former bartender explained to a crowd last weekend, “It’s not that we deserve it because it’s a handout. People like to say, ‘Oh, this is about free stuff.’ This is not about free stuff.”
“These are public goods,” she explained. “They’re public goods. So I never want to hear the word or the term ‘free stuff’ ever again. Because I’m tired of already hearing some of these neoliberal folks who are trying to, like, flip the script on us.”
Along with the $2 trillion Green New Deal, the freshman lawmaker plans to abolish the Department of Homeland Security, including ICE, provide free Medicare for all, and offer free college tuition to everyone. Her and Bernie Sander’s plan of free healthcare comes with a price tag of over $32 trillion over a period of 10 years, according to a study by George Mason University’s Mercatus Center.
Public education, libraries, & infrastructure policies (which we‘ve had before in America and elsewhere in the world!) are not “free stuff.”

They are PUBLIC GOODS.
And they are worth investing in, protecting, & advancing for all society and future generations.
Sincerely,
