Senator Joni Ernst released her new bill called Stop Wasteful Advertising by the Government Act or SWAG Act to cut back on the government spending on public relations and advertising. Ernst pointed out that the government spent an enormous amount on freebies such as $605,000 on coloring books and $60,000 on key chains.

In an interview with Alex Marlow on Breitbart’s News Daily, Ernst stated, “I am rolling out a new bill in my efforts to hold the federal government more accountable and watch our spending. It is called the SWAG Act. It is the Stop Wasteful Advertising by the Government Act, and what a lot of folks don’t realize is that the federal government spends over $1.4 billion on public relations and advertising campaigns. That is twice the amount that is dedicated to breast cancer research, and while I’m all about the mascots and things like that of course as an Iowa State Cyclone fan and you know what? For the federal government, there’s really no justifications spending a quarter of a million dollars in taxpayer money on mascots and millions more on swag.”

Ernst continued, “So what the bill will do is that it will prohibit agencies from purchasing and distributing swag, like coloring books, koozies, fidget spinners, and of course, creating their own mascots.”

Under the SWAG Act, the agencies would be required to disclose spending on advertising and public relations. Ernst pointed out that the government agencies have been spending thousands on items that need to be eliminated: $605,000 on coloring books, $60,000 on key chains, $33,00 for snuggies, $17,00 for koozies, and $16,000 for fidget spinners.

In 2013, Obama’s State Department spent a whooping $630,000 to buy fake Facebook followers and likes and paid for social media influencers to take a two-week trip around the globe to promote American values.

Zombie apocalypse survival guides were published for the Centers for Disease Control with a price tag of roughly $10,000, while $5,000 was spent on a “Green Reaper” mascot by the Department of Energy.

Ernst tweeted a clip of herself being interviewed by Fox’s Stuart Varney about the government’s wasteful spending.
