Underdog GOP Candidate Forces Runoff in Louisiana Governor’s Race
In a surprising result, the Democratic Incumbent Governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards was unable to garner 50% of the popular vote in an all-party primary which will force an unexpected runoff for the Governor’s seat.
The runoff will be with Republican Louisiana businessman Eddie Rispone who has a real chance to win the office. Rispone got a huge boost to propel him to the runoff by attaching himself to President Trump and promising to “make Louisiana great again!”
Thank you @realdonaldtrump for coming to LA to rally with us tonight. Let’s get out and vote tomorrow so that we can make Louisiana great again! #LAGov pic.twitter.com/XcaNExf1qq

The President celebrated these results on social media on Sunday praising Rispone and condemning Bel Edwards. He said that Bel Edwards has done a “poor job” and that Rispone is a “GREAT REPUBLICAN”.
The Governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards, has done a poor job. NOW HE IS IN A RUNOFF WITH A GREAT REPUBLICAN, @EddieRispone. Thank you Louisiana! 66% down to 47% after I explained what a bad job the Governor was doing.

President Trump also noted that the mainstream media has not been covering the “big Republican victory last night”. Much like the 2016 Presidential election, the media had very much expected Bel Edwards to win and do not seem all that interested in covering what a shock it was when Rispone forced the runoff.
The Media is not talking about the big Republican victory last night in Louisiana where a sitting Democrat Governor was forced into a runoff by not getting 50%. Big upset! Now @EddieRispone, who will be a great Governor, will win!
