Celebrities Travel to Google Summit in Mega Yachts and Private Jets to Discuss Climate Change
A three-day event hosted by Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin will be attended by A-listers such as former President Obama, Prince Harry, Leonardo DiCaprio, Katy Perry, and Gayle King in Sicily, Italy.
The event’s main focus is fighting climate change, but ironically, most of the attendees will be arriving by private jets and mega yachts. Over 114 private jets are expected at the Palermo airport nearby to transport the elite guests to the posh Vendura resort, where the Google summit takes place.
A 2017 report from the Institute for Policy Studies revealed that “a single private jet trip burns more greenhouse gases than the average American does in a whole year.”
According to the New York Post, fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg and her husband media tycoon Barry Diller arrived aboard their $200 million yacht. Other rich and famous attendees have been spotted around Sicily sporting luxury cars including a Maserati SUV which only gets 15 mpg in the city.
Katy Perry and actor Orlando Bloom were seen aboard Dreamworks founder David Geffen’s $400 million yacht. Perry posted a photo with Geffen to Instagram.
Bradley Cooper, Priyanka Chopra, Nick Jonas, and even Mark Zuckerberg are some of the others on the guest list. Entertainers including Chris Martin of Coldplay, Elton John, and Sting are expected to perform, but we probably won’t see many photos of the star studded event on social media since there is a rule which doesn’t allow the attendees to post on social media during the summit.
