Biden Calls “Foul Play” on Hunter’s Criminal Investigation
On Thursday, former Vice-President Joe Biden claimed that there is “foul play” in his son, Hunter’s criminal investigation over his dubious foreign business deals.
During an interview for CBS’s “Late Show,” Biden claimed that he is not entirely concerned about the criminal investigation. In fact, the new President-Elect believed that it was just part of his opponents’ political strategy as a ploy to “get him.”
Biden said, “We have great confidence in our son. I am not concerned about any accusations that have been made against him.” The former Vice-President continued, “It’s used to get to me. I think it’s kind of foul play.” However, Biden tried to look unmoved by the investigation, as he described his son as the “smartest man” that he knows.
The President-Elect’s statement came as a response after Hunter confirmed on Wednesday that federal authorities are looking into his involvement with Chinese oligarchs.
Currently, Hunter is facing a multi-state probe into his own business deals. Previously, federal prosecutors at the U.S Attorney’s office in Delaware launched a tax investigation against the younger Biden.
Moreover, the Southern District of New York is also looking into Hunter’s financial dealing, including the possibility of money laundering. Even the Western District of Pennsylvania is also conducting a similar investigation. This time, the state is looking into Hunter’s ties to a hospital business owned by his uncle and Joe’s brother, James. The investigations range from tax violations, money laundering, and foreign business deals, especially with China. According to the Daily Caller, the investigation originally started in 2018, before Biden had even launched his Presidential campaign.
From a long list of dubious business deals, Hunter had also been involved in numerous controversies. This includes being kicked out of the Navy in 2014 for using illegal drugs, having an affair with his late brother’s Beau’s wife, and fathering a child with a stripper, Lunden Roberts.
While the authorities have not yet indicated whether Joe is also subjected to a criminal investigation, critics believed that it could complicate his administration. Moreover, Hunter’s business partners assert that the former Vice-President might have been more involved with his son’s business deals than what he claims to admit.
According to Tony Bobulinski and James Gilliar, both of whom had worked with Hunter over a business deal with Chinese Energy Company CEFC in 2017, they claimed that it was a “family business.” They also confirmed that Jim Biden, Hunter’s uncle, was also involved as well.
