Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo is the latest Democrat politician to have been exposed as a hypocrite for violating her own orders to stay at home to fight the pandemic. She was pictured enjoying herself at a wine bar with other people and not really following social distancing protocols just days after she had ordered citizens to stay at home and not go out except for the essential activities.

“It’s week two of our pause. I know it’s been hard, but I want to thank every Rhode Islander who’s following our guidance. Please, stay home except for essential activities & wear a mask anytime you’re with people you don’t live with. Together, we can turn our case numbers around,” she said in a tweet.

The images were published by Turtleboy Sports and the libertarian group Liberty Rhode Island. They showed Raimondo enjoying a wine and paint event reserved for the rich and elite. The governor went there with her husband, but there were other people at the event too. Based on the pictures of the event, it seems that the social distancing was not really followed.

The pictures were taken by a woman named Erica Oliveras, who actually defended Raimondo’s actions. She said that she did not realize that the photo would cause so much trouble. Oliveras also defended the governor by saying the governor only removed her mask when she was drinking wine.

“The main thing I took out of it is, “Wow, she’s here at a small business, and she’s supporting,’” Oliveras said in an interview. “She came in, she supported, she bought wine, she engaged.”

A day after the governor had attended the fun wine party, it was announced Rhode Island Department of Health Director Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott had tested positive for coronavirus. Raimondo used the incident to prevent others from criticizing her decision to attend the wine party. She announced that she was quarantining herself.

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out and offered well-wishes. I tested negative again today. I am fortunate to be feeling great and will continue working from home during my self-quarantine,” she said in a tweet.

Raimondo’s office denied any wrongdoing. There were also plenty of leftists who defended her and said that she was not really violating her orders.
