Joe Biden has selected Pete Buttigieg to serve as his transportation secretary, according to several news outlets. If true, this would mean Buttigieg will play a major role in Biden’s plan to spend trillions of dollars in overhauling the United States’ infrastructure. He will also have a significant role in Biden’s promise to switch to clean and renewable energy and abolish the petroleum industry.

Buttigieg’s selection for the important position came as a surprise to many. He only served as mayor of a small city, which hardly has any transportation problems. He also served without distinction as a Naval Reserve officer. Buttigieg’s only strong point is that he is an openly gay man who and his appointment will be seen as a major move towards diversity.

The former vice president has compared Buttigieg to his late son. “To me, it’s the highest compliment I can give any man or woman. And, like Beau, he has a backbone like a ramrod,” Biden said. ‘I promise you, over your lifetime, you´re going to end up seeing a hell of a lot more of Pete than you are of me.”

The former mayor is going to have a difficult time getting confirmed. He will have to confront the Senate Republicans he had clashed with when he was running for the Democrat appointment. He had attacked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell during the Democrat primary. A former staffer of his also promoted the idea of blacklisting all Trump officials who were looking for work and possibly for personal and physical attacks. Those things hardly make him a friend of the Republicans.

The mainstream media celebrated the news by saying that Buttigieg will be the first openly gay cabinet secretary. They fail to mention that he has never held a federal office.

Another possible appointment by Biden is Jennifer Granholm, a former governor of Michigan, who might be tapped as Energy Secretary. She pushed for the use of electric cars, which helped to destroy the automotive industry in her own state. Granholm’s choice as Energy Secretary is a confirmation that Biden is set on abolishing the oil industry and all the other industries that depend on it.
