Biden Forgets Name of Democratic Georgia Candidate
On Tuesday, President-Elect Joe Biden hit the campaign trail, a first since the Nov. 3 elections. Unfortunately, Biden’s speech continued to be riddled with gaffes after he forgets the name of a Democratic Georgia candidate.
Biden traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, to support Democratic candidates for the run-off elections, Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock. During his speech, the former Vice-President said, “Honk for your next United States Senator Jon Orsoff!” as he stomped for the candidate. Unfortunately, Biden butchered Orsoff’s name after he mispronounced it.

Biden continued, “It’s time to stand up and take back our democracy. Send me these two men, and we will control the Senate, and we will change the lives of people in Georgia.”
There is much at stake for the upcoming Georgia elections as it will determine who will gain the Senate majority. Currently, the Republican Party continued to hold a two-point lead against the Democrats. If Ossoff and Warnock win against incumbent Republican Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Purdue, the tie-breaking vote will be up to the Vice-President, Sen. Kamala Harris, to cast her vote. This meant that Harris will most likely vote in favor of her own party members.
In his speech, Biden also blasted Purdue and Loeffler for supporting Texas’s lawsuit, which argued that four key battleground states, namely, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Michigan violated the Constitution after they passed election rules without going through the state legislature. Biden also criticized how their case was dismissed on the Supreme Court. Finally, the President-Elect also called out how the two Republican Senators wanted to nullify over 5 million votes in Georgia.
A Democratic win in Georgia might have a bigger implication for Biden since it is considered as a traditionally red state. In fact, the former Vice-President had nearly narrowly missed Georgia, which would have made him the first Democratic candidate to win in the state in a quarter of a century.
The former Vice-President traveled to Atlanta a day after the Electoral College certified him as the country’s next President-Elect. Overall, Biden won a total of 306 electoral votes, the same number of votes that Trump had won in the previous 2016 elections.
The run-off elections were among one of the costly state elections in the country’s history. In fact, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has spent an estimated $55 million for the upcoming Jan. 5 elections. In addition, Biden also maintained 50 staff to work in the Georgia campaign and launched a “Flip Georgia Fund” to encourage supporters to donate to Ossoff and Warnock.
