Obama: “Trump Presidency Exceed my Worst Expectations”
While promoting his new memoir, “A Promised Land,” former U.S. President Barack Obama lambasted President Donald Trump, saying that the present administration had “exceeded” his worst expectations.
The former President made the statements as he starred in CBS’s The Late Show with host Stephen Colbert. During the interview, Colbert expressed his initial doubts and fears about Trump’s presidency in 2016, saying that he feared Trump would abuse the “dignity” of the Presidential office. The show’s host then asked Obama, “Were you having a similar feeling in that moment?”
Obama agreed, saying that he had “concerns”’ against Trump. Unfortunately, the former U.S President believed that his worst fears were “exceeded,” adding that Trump’s presidency was “shambolic.”
The Democrat then criticized the administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic. While he believed that it would “have been hard for anyone,” Obama claimed that a lot of deaths could have been prevented if only Trump followed science. He also went on to accuse the President of disrespecting the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director, Dr. Anthony Fauci.
However, Obama did not stop there. He continued by saying that the President’s administration was so bizarre that he likened it to watching a wrestling “cage match.” He said, “You couldn’t make up some of the stuff that you’re seeing.” He went on to say that the Republican’s strategy backfired to the detriment of the country.
The former U.S President also took it as an opportunity to praise his close friend and former Vice President, Joe Biden, as well as his running mate Sen. Kamala Harris. Obama believed that the two would restore a presidency that actually cares for the people, not just among the privileged.
The show’s host agreed. Colbert then concluded that the Biden-Harris administration would bring back a sense of “stability” and “competency” that Americans had experienced throughout the eight years of the Obama administration. Watch:
This is not the first time that the former U.S President made critical statements during book promotion. In a discussion with National Public Radio host Michel Martin, Obama believed that the “fever of racism” remains the country’s predominant feature, noting that America was not yet prepared to have a black President.
