Biden Promises a “Very Progressive” Administration Ahead
Despite his initial promises of being a “moderate candidate,” former Vice-President Joe Biden declared that he would push for a more progressive agenda as he brings his transition process to the White House.
The former Vice-President shared in an interview with “NBC Nightly News,” that while he does not consider key progressive Democrats such as failed Democratic candidates, Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren for cabinet positions, he assured that there would be a significant progressive representation.
In fact, Biden declared that his cabinet members all have very “ambitious” and “progressive’ agendas ahead. He believed that in order for these agendas to happen, he would have to take out Democrats from the house and Senate as he needed “strong leaders’ in Congress to make it all happen.
As Biden attempts to fill in the Cabinet positions, some of his appointments include Antony Blinken as his Secretary of State. Blinken had become a familiar face in the White House, as he served both as President Clinton’s National Security Council and as President Obama’s Deputy Secretary of State. The soon-to-be Sec. of State had supported heavier military presence in the Middle East, such as promoting the “Iran Deal.”
Then, he had also appointed Avril Haines as the Director of National Security. Just like Blinken, Haines had also served under the previous administration. Unfortunately, Haines had faced serious criticism in the past with his use of drones in the Middle East and some regions in Africa. Moreover, he had also weighed in on the use of “drone strikes” that killed hundreds of innocent civilians, including women and children.
In addition, Biden had also appointed failed presidential candidate John Kerry as the Climate Envoy. Kerry had also previously worked in the White House and had even played a crucial role in the Paris climate agreement. With his new appointment, Kerry vowed to focus on agendas that address Climate Change.
Finally, the former Vice-President also appointed Alejandro Mayorkas as the state’s Homeland Security. Mayorkas is a Cuban immigrant who had left his country in the 1960s. Like the rest of the appointees, Mayorkas also served under the Obama administration as the Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security and Director of Citizenship and Immigration Services.
