Unbelievable: Reporter Asks Trump Whether He Will Pardon Himself
As a part of the annual White House Thanksgiving festivities, President Donald Trump pardoned a turkey for the National Thanksgiving Turkey Pardoning Ceremony. However, the happy festivities were cut short by rude reporters who asked the President whether he plans to pardon himself.
The reporter intruded on the annual White House celebration. During the event, he asked Trump whether he plans to “Pardons before leaving office? Will you be issuing a pardon for yourself?” the reporter shouted. Another reporter shot back asking whether Trump plans to invite former Vice-President Joe Biden.
Other media outlets such as The Independent mocked at the President’s celebration. In an op-ed by Holly Baxter, the author believed that the turkey pardoning serves as the “final humiliation” for Trump after he had lost the recent 2020 general elections.
This is not the first time that reporters came under fire during the White House Thanksgiving celebration. In 2019, a Newsweek journalist, Jessica Kwong, lost her job after claiming that the President will spend his holidays “tweeting” and “golfing” when he made his plans to visit soldiers in Afghanistan.
The Thanksgiving ceremony was led by the President and First Lady, Melania Trump. The Commander-in-chief also shared that Thanksgiving should be considered a “very special day” for turkeys; however, Trump joked that although it is likely not a good one. The President then pardoned the two turkeys that were named “Corn” and “Cob”. The turkeys were chosen among the flock, brought by the National Turkey Federation from Iowa for the national ceremony.
In his speech, Trump wished the entire country a happy Thanksgiving. He then referred to the 400th anniversary of the pilgrims who arrived at Plymouth Rock after going through a rough and bitter winter. Trump believed that even at the beginning of the country’s history, it had always represented the story of “triumph,” “determination,” and “perseverance.” The President then referred to the challenges that the country continues to face today. He went on to say that while America deals with the coronavirus pandemic, he boasted that with the administration’s support, pharmaceutical companies were able to develop a vaccine to combat the virus.
In addition, the President also touted the recent economic boost as Dow Jones surged to 30,000 points since the beginning of the economic shutdown. He also turned to the First Lady, thanking her for revamping the Rose Garden and introducing Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kusher.
Finally, Trump reminded Americans that they live in the greatest country of all and that Thanksgiving should be a time for people to realize the “incredible gift” America had brought. The President concluded his speech by extending his thoughts to those who sacrificed being away from their own families to keep America safe. “America is great, and as I say, America First, we shouldn’t go away from that,” Trump said.
While the President refused to concede to the rigged election results, he had also given White House admin officials the green light to allow his opponent, former Joe Biden to start his transition process.
