Mayor Lori Lightfoot just canceled Thanksgiving for the residents of Chicago. On Thursday, Lightfoot issued a stay-at-home order for Chicago residents and told everyone that they should just cancel their plan for Thanksgiving since she would not allow them to go out. The “advisory” is supposed to be part of the overall effort to fight the coronavirus.

Lightfoot’s order is set to take effect on Monday, the 16th of November. It’s going to last for 30 days, so it’s not just about Thanksgiving. Lightfoot told residents that they should not go out for non-essential business, should not accept visitors, and avoid traveling altogether. The restrictions are reminiscent of the lockdown that took place in Wuhan in China where freedom of movement was severely restricted. If Lightfoot had the same authority as the Chinese Communist Party, then she would have tried the same level of restrictions on the residents of her city.

This advisory calls on all Chicagoans to do the following:

  • Stay home unless for essential reasons
  • Stop having guests over—including family members you do not live with
  • Avoid non-essential travel
  • Cancel traditional Thanksgiving plans,” Lightfoot tweeted. She is just the latest Democrat to limit the freedom of residents within her jurisdiction.

In New York Governor Cuomo is seeking to impose new restrictions on residents as the number of cases surge in the state. He has limited the number of people that can gather, even when they are inside their homes. Cuomo claims without evidence that most of the cases are infected at bars, restaurants, and parties which is why he is limiting the number of people that can go to those events and places.

“COVID is getting worse by the day. All around the country. The fall surge is here. We are taking action but we need New Yorkers to do their part. Wear a mask. Get tested. Follow all health guidelines. Take this seriously,” Cuomo said in a tweet.

These restrictions do not apply to the Democrat officials and their families. There have been plenty of cases when the officials have used their office to get away with violating their own lockdown orders.
