On Sunday, former Vice-President, and Democratic nominee, Joe Biden, called out President Donald Trump as the real “virus” and urged American voters to “beat” him out of the White House.

In a last-ditch effort to sway voters in Western Pennsylvania, Biden made several last-minute stops. In his visit, the nominee declared that COVID-19 is not the real virus. Rather, the Democrat believed that it was the President who is “infecting” America.

During the day, Biden made two appearances, one at Philadelphia’s Sharon Baptist Church and the second, at the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park. In his second stop, Biden declared, “To beat the virus, we got to beat Donald Trump.” He added, “He’s the virus.”

According to recent media reports, there is a growing concern that Biden might lose Philadelphia as Trump was able to close the gap between him and the nominee. In a Washington Post report, the media outlet cited that Democratic supporters have become increasingly anxious over Biden’s standing in the Keystone state. While the article stated that the nominee could maintain a lead against Trump, that confidence had started to “erode” in the weeks leading to the election.

Some of the reasons that had contributed to their anxiety include the delays in the vote-by-mail scheme and the possibility of “voter surge” from predominantly White rural areas. Moreover, left-wing supporters also worry about Biden’s increasing support for left-wing agendas, including his promise to end fracking.

To make matters worse, the recent violence and riots that had taken over Philadelphia might also work against Biden’s favor. Democrats believed that the riots would only make Biden appear “weak” and less in control.

Moreover, it does not help that while the country continued to see a sudden surge in riots and political unrest, the Democrat went on to advocate for anti-gun agenda. Over the weekend, the nominee stated in his recent Twitter post that he would ban all assault weapons and high capacity magazines. Biden also added that he would implement a universal background check as well as pass the “common sense law” as a way to end what he believed as an “epidemic” of gun violence.

These fears were confirmed by Democrat strategist Neil Oxman. WaPo cited that Oxman feared Trump supporters might “come out just a little bit stronger” than the Democrats. Even Democrat and Pennsylvania’s Lt. Gov. John Fetterman also believed that it would be difficult for Biden to win in Pennsylvania, given that Trump was able to establish a sturdy base in the Keystone state.
