The Democratic National Convention had its kick-off on Monday night with an official theme centered around unity, but its general message was focused on race and division. Several sections of the convention were focused on racial divisions. The Democrats have been pushing for that since the death of George Floyd back in May. That incident has sparked protests, riots, and lootings in different cities all over the country.

Those riots have caused so much damage and death, and yet the Democrats have refused to condemn them. In fact, many of the party members who are sitting as local officials have been encouraging lawlessness while doing everything that they can to prevent the federal government from taking action. That seems to be the general message of the first night of the DNC.

Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) was one of the first politicians to speak. She used her daughter as a prop for her speech, claiming that she wants her to grow up in an America where the president “doesn’t fan the flames of racism and looks out for all of us.”

Bowser then introduced George Floyd’s family. Floyd’s brother spoke, “My brother George was selfless. He always made sacrifices for his family, friends, and even complete strangers,” Floyd’s brother said. He forgot to mention that Floyd was a career criminal who was high on drugs the day he got arrested. Floyd’s brother also praised the people who are “peacefully protesting in the name of love and unity”— a “fitting” legacy for Floyd, he said, listing others who “we’ve lost to hate and injustice.” The claim that the protests are peaceful is a complete lie since it has torn numerous cities.

They then played a video that featured Biden speaking to a group that included Chicago Mayor Lightfoot. Biden asked her, “Mayor, how are you prioritizing the many things you have to do as we try to tackle, in a way we haven’t before, systemic racism in the city?” Lightfoot’s answer was that it was all about economic empowerment. There was no mention of the horrendous increase in violent crime in her city, which has claimed so many lives.

Michelle Obama was the last major speaker of the night. She praised her husband and how they raised their kids and urged the people to vote for Biden. But to cap the night, they ended it with a hilariously amateurish video of Billy Porter singing “For What It’s Worth.” The low-production value just indicates the state of the Democrat, which is that they’re barely trying.
