On Monday night, former First Lady Michelle Obama, and not presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden became the star of a lackluster campaign for the first day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC).

Filled with what most people described as lengthy zoom speeches, Obama touched down on several issues such as the spike in coronavirus deaths, foreign alliances, and racial injustice. Obama also called into question President Donald Trump’’s competence, saying that he is the “wrong” president of the U.S.

“So let me be as honest and clear as I possibly can. Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country. He has had more than enough time to prove that he can do the job, but he is clearly in over his head,” Obama said. She also claimed that the President was incapable of handling the ongoing political, economic, and health crisis. Obama concluded, “He cannot meet this moment. He simply cannot be who we need him to be for us. It is what it is.”

In her speech, Obama also revived the rhetoric that Trump separated families and “threw children in cages.” While this might have successfully stirred up emotions for Democrat voters, the truth is that her own husband, Barack Obama perpetrated such practice.

In a report from the Associated Press, the non-partisan media outlet claimed that the reference to the idea that the administration threw children in cages were both misleading and distorted. The AP wrote that in fact, Trump used facilities with chain-like enclosures that were mostly built by the Obama-Biden administration as a way to house children.

The AP also wrote that during the height of Trump’’s no tolerance policy, the photos of children in the enclosures were taken during the Obama administration back in 2014.

Watch:

Moreover, even Democrats complained about what appears to be a mostly boring Democratic convention. TV talk show hosts appeared to have a sense of buyers’ remorse, after noticing Biden’’s failing campaign. Late Night host Seth Meyers was baffled why the Democratic party chose to put Obama on the first night of the convention, suggesting that it was the Former First Lady and not Biden who took the spotlight. The Daily Show host Trevor Noah also admitted that the convention was uneventful and that it even failed to retain audience attention. spoke for many when he panned the event as a low-energy affair, adding that it just did not have “the same juice.”

Another late-night talk show host and Trump critic, Jimmy Fallon, also mocked the convention as nothing but filled with boring virtual speeches.
