Bill Stevenson finally broke out his silence about his former wife, Jill Biden, in an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail.

Stevenson slammed claims that he and Jill were already divorced when she met former Vice President and presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden. In fact, he claimed that Jill and the nominee were having an affair while they were still married. “I don’t want to hurt anyone. But facts are facts and what happened, happened,” Stevenson said.

Originally, Joe told The New York Times in 2008 how he and his wife had met on a blind date. He recalled that he had seen a picture of Jill Jacobs in 1975 in a local park advertisement in Wilmington, Delaware. That night, Joe’s brother Frank gave Jill’s phone number and believed that the two would make a perfect pair, especially since she was uninterested in politics. The very next day, Joe called Jill and asked her out. She refused to do so because she was busy. However, Biden was able to persuade her and came to pick her up. That time, the media outlet claimed that Joe was a widower when his wife Neilia and their infant daughter were killed in a car crash. On the other hand, Jill and Stevenson had also broken up.

Stevenson disagreed and dropped a bombshell. He asserted that he had first met Jill in 1969 and was already preparing to leave town. While he was at the car wash, Jill and her friend came to Stevenson to admire his 1968 Chevy Camaro. He claimed that he had later invited the two at a friend’’s birthday party. From that day on, the founder of the famed music club, “The Stone Balloon,” said that the rest was history.

Then, two years into their marriage, both Jill and Stevenson worked for Biden’s senate campaign in 1972. At that time, Biden was still married to his first wife, who later died in a car crash before he was sworn to the Senate. He revealed, “Jill and I sat in the Bidens’ kitchen.” He recounted, “We worked on his campaign. I gave $10,900 to his first campaign—in cash.”

In 1974, Stevenson then started to suspect that the Senator and his wife were having an affair while Joe was already 31, and Jill was just 23. He explained that he had invited his wife to see Bruce Springsteen, which at that time was a big deal. However, Jill refused, saying that she had to watch over Biden’s two kids, Hunter and Beau. He remarked that he did not realize that Jill and the senator were that close. Finally, one of Jill’s best friends finally told Stevenson that she believed his wife and Joe had gotten too close.

That same year, a man came into Stevenson’’s office to report that he had given a quote for Jill’s crunched bumper and said that he had never received a reply. The man also remarked that the then-senator was driving her car.

Finally, Stevenson asked Jill to leave the house. While his father asked him to take her daughter back, he claimed that he was not interested in fixing the marriage, especially since he considered Joe as a friend. He also remarked that he was not surprised that the Vice President fell in love with Jill. “It was hard not to,” Stevenson said.

During the interview, he claimed that he is set to release an autobiography. Stevenson claimed that he does not want to ruin Jill’s chance at being the first lady, but that he wanted to share his own side of the story. “It was not a bitter book,” he concluded.
