On Sunday, Silicon Valley billionaire Bill Gates described President Donald Trump’s coronavirus response as “mind blowing,” as he claimed that no other country had the level of insanity when it comes to testing. In an interview for CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” the show’s host, asked the billionaire to explain why the “richest country in the world” and a nation who spends two or three times as much as healthcare as other developed nations, would be at the “bottom pile” when it comes to handling the coronavirus pandemic.

Gates responded that he had never expected the country would do so “poorly” in handling the outbreak, especially since the U.S housed the Center for Disease Control, a highly esteemed institution and regarded as having the best epidemiologist team in the world.

However, Gates said that a number of missteps caused by the “political atmosphere” prevented the country from amping up the coronavirus testing.

During his speech to Minnesota business owners, Trump boasted that his early decision to issue a travel ban, despite criticisms from the China-backed World Health Organization, and the Democrats have helped stop the spread of the virus.

However, Gates dismissed the President’s statements, adding that “You know, it’s nonsense that any sort of travel ban we did was at all beneficial.” He lamented that the administration did not even have the common sense to stop the “waves of people”’ who were coming into the country. He also criticized the fact that the U.S. had issued a fewer number of lockdowns, and with less strict implementation as compared to other countries.

Overall, Gates believed that the country is paying the price of such missteps in terms of the number of deaths and would also put a heavy toll on the economy by costing the country trillions of U.S. dollars.

Gates also described the administration’s response to the virus as “mind blowing” over the federal government’’s failure to provide better testing. The billionaire claimed that the administration only wanted to boast how great their response was.

Moreover, he claimed that he even suggested them to create a CDC website. However, Gates said that the government failed to do so and instead went on to focus on other things. He also advised the government not to reimburse the tests so that the results could go back within three days. Instead, Gates claimed that taxpayers were made to pay the “worst test results” in any country worldwide. He even added that the government simply didn’t want to waste money, even though it meant bringing timely results.

He concluded, “No other country has this testing insanity because they won’t talk about fixing it because they’re—you know, they think they need to just keep acting like they’ve done a competent job.”

The Microsoft founder previously denied conspiracy theories which claimed that he had invested millions of dollars in coronavirus vaccine and treatment, as a way to implant tracking devices on people. In fact, polls showed that 28 percent of Americans believed that Gates had a more sinister plan in terms of investing millions of dollars in coronavirus research.
