The governor of New York Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) on Wednesday tried to pin the blame for his state’s high rate of coronavirus deaths in nursing homes on President Trump, he claims that he was just following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Cuomo has received intense scrutiny and criticism for his order which mandates that patients who had COVID-19 must be readmitted into nursing homes.

Part of the directive read, “No resident shall be denied re-admission or admission to the NH [nursing home] solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19. NHs are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident who is determined medically stable to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission.”

Rep. Elise Stefanik has called for an investigation into Cuomo’s order as it was difficult to understand why he would give such an order. Over 5,800 residents of nursing homes and healthcare facilities have died so far. Most of those deaths can be claimed directly on the directive which allowed the elderly residents to come in contact with patients who have tested positive for the disease. At the time when he issued the order in March, it was already known that the elderly were at risk of contracting the disease.

During a press conference which he held on Wednesday, he was asked why he issued the order at the time. “Look, this is a political season, I get it. I have refrained from politics. I’m not going to get into the political back and forth, but anyone who wants to ask why did the state do that with COVID patients and nursing home, it’s because the state followed President Trump’s CDC guidance. So they should ask President Trump. I think that will stop the conversation,” Cuomo replied. He’s basically putting the blame on the President for the order that he gave which has caused thousands of deaths.

He also said that he does not regret the order which has caused so many deaths and suffering. He’s now claiming that he’s following the President’s orders when it’s convenient for him because he wants to shift the blame away from him. The Democrats have been blaming most of the country’s problems on President Donald Trump, now they have even started blaming him for all of the mistakes that they have committed. Hopefully, the probe into Cuomo’s orders will push through.
