Over 100 black male leaders, including big names in politics and entertainment, are pushing Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden to pick a black woman as his Vice President or risk losing the 2020 elections.

More than 100 male leaders from the Black community penned an open letter to Sleepy Joe on Monday. They argue that it’s time the former vice president recognizes how vital yet unrecognized black women have been to the Democratic Party and its candidates over the years.

“For too long black women have been asked to do everything from rally the troops to risk their lives for the Democratic Party with no acknowledgment, no respect, no visibility, and certainly not enough support. Failing to select a black woman in 2020 means you will lose the election,” the letter reads.

The open letter comes as Biden is set to finally announce his long-awaited running mate this week. Biden’s VP is one of the most talked-about topics in recent months as the position has become more crucial and important due to Sleepy Joe’s obvious cognitive decline and inability to lead the United States on his own.

Months have passed, and Biden has not yet decided on who gets the other Democratic ticket. Several names have been tossed here and there, including former First Lady Michelle Obama, whom Biden says he would pick “in a heartbeat,” but unfortunately for him, Obama has made it clear that she did not want to run for office. Other names include Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA), former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), all of which are African-American women.

Earlier this year, Biden has pledged to pick a woman as his running mate, and now that the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement has been in an uproar since May, the black community is pushing the elderly Biden to pick a woman of color to be his VP or risk losing the November election.

This was not the first letter that the Biden campaign received regarding the VP topic, as last month, over 700 black female leaders sent a letter to Biden, asking him to “seize” the opportunity to pick a person of color to be his vice president.

Enumerating possible women to take the VP ticket, the letter read, “They have the experience, qualifications and principled core values of a true leader that would make for the right partner to help catapult the Democrats to victory in November. Every one of these women has the skills, competence, and knowledge required of an effective governing partner who will help you lead America in this unprecedented moment in our history.”

Another one of Biden’s VP contenders and former challenger, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), is making noise as she successfully raises over $7.7 million for Sleepy Joe’s campaign. Before officially endorsing Biden last April, Warren used to bash the former vice president.
