Oprah Winfrey: “Whiteness Gives You An Advantage No Matter What”
Media mogul and billionaire Oprah Winfrey lashes out in an all-new guilt trip as she declared that white people were born with an “unfair” advantage in life.
During an episode for her Youtube series called the “Oprah Conversation,” the media mogul declared that “whiteness” gives people an unfair advantage in America’s caste system. The episode entitled “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man: Part 1,” Winfrey along with NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho, invited several white people to discuss their white privilege. Winfrey even praised her guests for admitting that they were “racist.”
“It’s a fundamental assumption,” the host said about racial privilege. She went on to explain, “There are white people who are not as powerful as the system of white people—the caste system that’s been put in place.” The billionaire continued by saying that no matter where these white people are in the “ladder of success,” at least they still have their “whiteness” to hold on to. Winfrey concluded, “That’s what the term “white privilege” is. It means that whiteness still gives you an advantage, no matter.”
In the interview, the host introduced a Jewish man called Seth. She then went on to ask Seth to share his experience of “great awakening” after realizing that he was racist. Seth then went on to share his life history as a man that was born in Manhattan during the ’70s. He continued by saying that for most of his life, he had identified himself as a “liberal.”
Seth claimed that he was a “racist,” but was inspired by the “powerful” Black Lives Matter Movement” to become an “anti-racist.” He reasoned out that when it comes to racial prejudice, there are only two sides of the coin, those that he considers themselves as “racist” and “anti-racist.”
Another guest was Lisa, a Minnesotan native who had recently moved to California. She went on to claim that all racial prejudice streams from “unconscious biases” that white people have, and went on to warn that most white people are unaware of their privilege.
Winfrey’s co-host, Acho chimed into the conversation. He claimed that white people living their own “white” life becomes a huge part of the problem. Acho recounted all the times when he told his friends with white children. He believed that most white people will live in a “white neighborhood” in a white-dominated city, in a “white state” and if they were not careful enough, their children will grow up to young adults and will eventually become a part of the problem.
Despite sitting with a billionaire, Acho implied that the country is mostly run by “white people.” He lamented that it is easier for white people to reach success as CEOs, execs, and owners of the top 500 companies in America. He declared that “They run America. Not an individual white person, but collective white people.” Acho concluded that white people are the problem and that they themselves be the only solution.
Recently, Winfrey had also partnered with Lionsgate Production to bring the slave series entitled the “1619 Project” into both film and TV despite much debate about its historical inaccuracies, such as sharing false information that America is founded by slavery and not by democracy.
