On Tuesday, law enforcement officers arrested Never Trump PAC founder, Matthew Borges over a $60 million bribery scheme as a part of a public corruption probe.

Borges, a former chairman of the Ohio Republican Party and led a group that opposes Trump’s re-election campaign, was arrested over a federal bribery scheme. The Never Trump PAC founder, along with three others, has allegedly conspired with Republican Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, Larry Householder, to secure a whopping $1.3 billion bailout for an energy company called FirstEnergy Solutions.

The anti-Trump supporter agreed to secure a billion-dollar taxpayer bailout to prevent the shutdown of nuclear power plants in exchange for $60 million, which was redirected to the non-profit organization that was led by the Republican House Speaker. Prosecutors were yet to identify the extent of Borges’s involvement in the bribery scheme.

Borges had also recently launched Right Side PAC, along with former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci. The point of the PAC was to persuade voters who had voted for Trump in 2016 but had grown dissatisfied with his leadership, to instead support presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden.

According to the report from Axios, the group plans to target former Trump supporters in battleground states such as Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Florida, and North Carolina. The super PAC, which relies heavily on donors, would use the digital medium, as well as mail and telephone communications to reach out to the voters. Their goal seemed to serve as a stab against the administration, as it will also include Republican alums such as former President George W. Bush and Sen. John McCain.

The Never Trump PAC plans to use Biden’s records on free trade, federal spending, as well as highlight his support to the Catholic faith to persuade voters. In an interview, Borges told the media outlet that “We want to take an opportunity to kind of reset things.” He continued, “And the first way to do that is cut out cancer and start rebuilding… We’re not trying to become Democrats.”

With Borges’s arrest, Breitbart News cited that it remains “unclear” whether the super PAC had benefited from the million-dollar bribery deal. The group also denied providing any statements.

Currently, FBI agents were also conducting a “law enforcement activity” on the House Speaker’s property, which was located in Glenford in southeastern Ohio. This is not the first time that Householder, a veteran lawmaker, was accused of corruption. When he left office in 2004, several of his top advisers were also under federal investigation for allegations of money laundering and irregular campaign activities. Fortunately, Householder was able to get away after the case was closed without any further charges.
