Actor Alec Baldwin floated a wild conspiracy theory over the weekend, saying that President Donald Trump will use the United States’ armed forces to somehow stop the presidential election in November.

The aging and striving for relevance actor’s comments came in reference to the ongoing situation in Portland, Oregon, where federal agents were deployed to an area amid the ongoing Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests brought about by the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd.

Ted Wheeler, Portland’s mayor, denounced the presence of the federal agents, saying that they refused to identify themselves to the public and are capturing protesters in the streets in unmarked cars. The Department of Homeland Security issued a statement addressing the complaints, saying, “The CBP agents identified themselves and were wearing CBP insignia during the encounter. The names of the agents were not displayed due to recent doxing incidents against law enforcement personnel who serve and protect our country.”

“The “police” activity in Portland, and lack of outrage over/resistance to it tells us how Trump could stop the election in November. It’s his only hope,” Baldwin wrote on his Twitter account, over the weekend.

Then he further pushed for his wild conspiracy theory in a separate follow up tweet, retweeting an article from Esquire written by left-winger and anti-Trumper Charles P. Pierce. Baldwin boldly claimed that a military intervention was “Trump’s election strategy.”

Celebrity siblings and vocal anti-Trumpers Rosanna and Patricia Arquette added to the conspiracy claims by saying that federal agents are “secret police” using “Gestapo” tactics. Their claims are no different from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who called law enforcement “stormtroopers.”

Baldwin went further and called President Donald Trump to resign, tweeting, “Trump should resign. Spare your party and let them rebuild.”

Portland, Oregon has experienced weeks of violent protests and rioting since the death of George Floyd during Memorial Day weekend. Even the city’s mayor, Ted Wheeler, has attempted to blame the chaos on the president and has refused federal agents in the city despite the uncontrollable violence.
