The Democrats are showing how they are steadily progressing into far-left territory when it comes to their policies. On Thursday, the Senate Democrats announced a $350 billion proposal addressing the historic racism that causes the under-investment in communities where people of color live. According to the Democrats, the spending will be an “important down-payment to answer the calls to address systemic racism and historic underinvestment in communities of color.”

In other words, the proposal is just the first step towards making reparations a reality. The question of reparations is a hot issue right now, with many far-left activists calling for payments to be made to the descendants of slaves. The proposal’s problem is that it would not be easy to determine who would be eligible for payment. Also, it would burden people who had nothing to do with slavery. Even the ancestors of most white people today were not slaveowners. In fact, many white immigrants who came over to the colonies and then to the United States were very poor. To require them to make payments would be unfair and racist since it will be based solely on skin color.

The proposal of the Democrats is split into two. The first $135 billion would be spent on creating jobs, providing better healthcare, and improving child care for black communities. The rest of the allotted money will be spent on projects that would address discrimination for the long-term. That includes helping African American homebuyers with their down payment for housing and other financial aids.

The Democrats are keen on pushing for reparations. In the past week, the cities of Asheville, North Carolina, and Providence, Rhode Island, have made moves to make reparations a reality within their jurisdictions. Although what those cities have enacted are not the direct payments to individuals, which are what most people think when they hear the word reparations, the idea is still the same. Individuals will be given incentives based on their race.

The Democrats are pushing for reparations because they are pandering to the far-left. They think that pushing for these policies will endear them to ordinary Americans. In fact, it has the opposite effect. These far-left policies are detested by ordinary freedom-loving Americans. Most people will not appreciate that they are being made to pay for things that they had nothing to do with. These moves will surely backfire on them come November.
