Mayor Jorge Elorza (D) of Providence, Rhode Island, just signed an executive order, which was meant to kickstart the process of giving reparations to African-Africans and indigenous people. Members of his administration will be meeting with a select group of advisers from the African-African community, historians, and researchers to create a plan on how to share the state’s participation with perpetuating slavery. That history can be shared through exhibitions and conversations with the community. The city leaders will also be conducting reviews of the city’s laws, especially those that discriminate against blacks.

“Today’s announcement is a commitment that we’re making to a process. What we’re doing here together is truly something historic… but most importantly, it comes directly from the voice of our Black community,” the mayor said.

Not everyone is enthusiastic about the plan for reparations. Some community leaders are pointing out that improving schools would be the best way to help people of color and not through reparations. But the voices of those who disagree with the plan are drowned out by those who are eager to pander to the leftist activist groups advocating for reparations, and it seems that the push for it is becoming mainstream. Asheville in North Carolina was just a day ahead when its City Council voted without any dissenting vote to offer reparations to its African American residents. However, the reparations that they are offering comes in the form of increased spending in the communities and not as a direct payment.

On the national level, Congressional Democrats are pushing for the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act, which has become a part of the “Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force” platform. It’s safe to say that if Biden wins the election in November that a law making reparations a reality will be passed in Congress. That would mean one segment of the population would be made to make payments to another based on race. It would mean favoring one race over the other. All of these are being pushed by the leftists and the Democrats.
