During a discussion with reporters on Monday, former Vice President and presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden declared that America is ready for “systemic” and “institutional” changes that he will implement if he is to win the upcoming 2020 general elections.

According to the Washington Post columnist, Jennifer Rubin, Biden sees the current political climate l as an opportunity to change America, the way the nation did in the 1930s, “I do think we’ve reached the point where one of those trite phrases everybody uses…it’s a real inflection point in American history, and I don’t believe it’s unlike what [President Franklin] Roosevelt [faced].” Rubin added that Biden said, “I think we have an enormous opportunity to make some really systemic changes related to racism but institutional ways in which we handle things. And I think the country is really ready.”

The columnist wrote that while Biden had kept a moderate stand, he knew that if he wanted to win the upcoming elections, he had to “throw in fear” against the Republicans and demand bigger and more progressive changes.

However, this is not the first time that Biden made grand statements and promises that he will deliver change. During the height of the coronavirus pandemic, Biden claimed that it should serve as an opportunity to “fundamentally transform” the nation. Then, as the Black Lives Matter protests erupted, the Democratic nominee promised to “transform America” and get to the roots of racism.

Other Democrats, as well as the mainstream media, agreed that Biden is starting to gear towards the far-left. Just last week, the two-time failed Democratic candidate, Sen. Bernie Sanders, believed that the former Vice President might just be America’s most progressive president after Franklin D. Roosevelt.

To appeal to a growing far-left sentiment, Biden had asked the Democratic Socialist to help him create a progressive presidential platform. With this, they have set up a group of six to eight people to take part in a “Unity Task Force” that would help draft Biden’s progressive policies.

The result was a 110-page policy wish list. While the platform did not carry Sanders’ socialist policy such as the “Medicare for All,” “Green New Deal,” “abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” (ICE), and “defund the police,” it still carries other advocacies that would appeal to the moderates. This includes creating a timeline for a “net-zero carbon emission,” which was introduced by Rep. Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez.

Moreover, mainstream media had praised Biden’s decision to create a progressive policy wishlist and acknowledged that he is starting to gear towards a far-left stand. According to the Washington Post, Biden’s move was “remarkable” and shows his understanding of the current issues that had plagued America. Even the Wall Street Journal followed suit with a hope that his “plans reflect Democrats’ renewed comfort with big government and policies tailored to address minority issues.”

However, President Donald Trump criticized the Democratic candidate. Trump believed that Biden lacked the political willpower to make his own decisions, and had constantly caved to the pressure and demands from the far-left supporters.
