The Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) has come to an end after Seattle police showed up in force on Wednesday morning to take back the several blocks occupied by protesters. Police officers moved into the area, took down tents, and drove away the people occupying the zone. Video of the incident showed police in riot gear having clashes with some of the protestors who tried to resist.

The police started to move in at around 5 AM. There was a loud bang that was heard inside at around 6 AM, although the police later claimed that it was caused by a protester who lit a firecracker. The police also assured the public that it did not use force in removing the protestors.

The official twitter account of the Seattle Police Department gave updates on what was happening. “As of 7:45 AM, officers have made 23 arrests in the #CHOP zone for failure to disperse, obstruction, resisting arrest, and assault. One of the arrestees, a 29-year-old man, was in possession of a large metal pipe and kitchen knife when he was taken into custody.”

Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best said that while the police supported the protests, what had happened inside the CHAZ was brutal and was absolute lawlessness that had to be stopped.

The mayor of Seattle made headlines when she tried to mock Trump for offering to send in the National Guard to dismantle the CHAZ back when the autonomous was just getting started. Settle mayor Jenny Durkan said he did not understand what was going on there and that there was no need to send them in troops. She compared the zone to a block party and that the protest may last until the summer, calling the protest a “summer of love.”

Durkan refused to do anything about the autonomous zone. She even aided them by sending out concrete barricades to be installed around the area to prevent vehicles from coming in. But the violent crimes were just too much. There were several incidents of shooting and numerous reports of robbery and sexual assault to which the police were unable to respond to. The latest shooting incident saw the CHAZ gunmen killing an African American teenager and wounding his companion when they gunned down their SUV.

Despite all of those, Durkan only took action when some protesters showed up in her home and felt threatened. Even after the original CHAZ has been destroyed, other leftists will try it out in other cities, which will cause more trouble.
