The democrat and staunch admin critic, Rep. Maxine Waters, lambasted President Donald Trump’s policies on police reforms, claiming that it was “not enough.” Instead, Waters claimed that the administration must prioritize getting rid of “serial, racist, ignorant, & stupid cops.”

In a Twitter post, the Democratic lawmaker claimed that “Police reform is NOT ENOUGH. Getting rid of serial, racist, ignorant, & stupid cops must be a top priority. Let’s call them out! Police protective unions, you’ve got to go too!” as she referred to the death of African-American Rayshard Brooks. Waters described Brooks’ death as a “senseless and needless” killing.

The lawmaker had been outspoken against the current administration. Last month, Waters believed that Trump had “emboldened” racists such as Derek Chauvin, the police officer who was behind the death of 46-year-old George Floyd. Waters also described the president as a “liar” and someone who cannot be “trusted.”

On Friday, the 27-year-old was shot by a police officer during the arrest. At that time, law enforcement officers responded to a call that claimed that an unknown man was blocking the traffic by sleeping at Wendy’s drive-thru. In an investigation by the Georgia Bureau, the officers tried to take Brooks into custody after he failed a sobriety test.

Unfortunately, Brooks attempted to resist and was able to reach out to the officer’s taser. The 27-year-old tried to escape, but the officers chased him on foot. At one point, Brooks allegedly pointed the taser at the police officer, to which he fired his weapon. To prove this, surveillance footage was able to corroborate the officer’s testimony.

However, despite the threat, Brooks’ death was ruled out as a homicide. With weeks following George Floyd’s death at the hands of the Minneapolis police officers, the 27-year-old’s death instantly spread chaos in Atlanta for the days that followed the incident. Protesters responded violently by blocking the traffic in major highways and even burned down the Wendy’s.

In a report from The Patriot Hill, the rioters spared no one and even attacked a CNN crew covering the incident. CNN’s Natasha Chen recalled that the demonstrators had gotten so aggressive, they broke a camera. Protesters went on to challenge Atlanta’s elected leaders, including Democrat Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, to defund the city’s police department.

Bottoms responded on Monday, claiming that she had planned to sign orders which will require all Atlanta police officers to only use reasonable force when necessary to protect themselves. In her statement for CBS News, “we need to reiterate our desire that there be de-escalation and not immediate use of force when there are other options that are available,” the Atlanta mayor said.

As President Donald Trump made sweeping police reforms as a response to increasing anti-police sentiments, Water’s fellow Democrat, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, also undermined the administration’s efforts to end police brutality. Schumer described the White House’s response as “cheap” and a mere “modest” move, which failed to provide any comprehensive solutions to the problem.
